Which material and form to name

A hot-rolled rigid frame and a cold-formed secondary member do different work. Write the clear span in feet, the eave height in feet, and the bay spacing in feet. A 80 ft clear span at a 24 ft eave height with 25 ft bays is not the same request as a 40 ft multi-bay frame at a 16 ft eave. If the wall is an insulated metal panel, ask for the panel thickness and the R-value or U-factor of that assembly.

Quantity units also split the comparison. One building set, six repeated frames, or a phased pair of warehouses should not be priced as a single unnamed lot. Destination ZIP code, truck access, and crane responsibility stay beside the quantity. A builder-program search does not add those facts, and an ownership search does not certify that any alternative frame is interchangeable with a named system.

Before accepting a substitute, check the primary frame drawing, the purlin and girt spacing, the design wind speed in mph, the ground snow load in psf, and the seismic design category against the project. Standard published widths can be compared quickly when the site fits them. A custom reaction from a crane or a hangar door should be engineered for that project.
